Recovering Memories of Partition

Are stories lost forever, and do personal histories count? In a world that has in recent decades seen immense change, with identities and even histories in flux, it also follows that “big events” shape “small lives.” But the manner in which every life comes about, how one’s history is shaped, has a bearing on the universal history that is then written about. Many a time, small histories are lost, and it is then that we must go in search for these other stories, using our own memory tools.

Ramtek's Water Woes

Because of scanty rainfall, lack of irrigation and prolonged powercuts, paddy production this year ranges between 15 and 20 per cent of the expected in Maharashtra's Ramtek tehsil. While the government's immediate task is to provide relief to the farmers, it should also take up the task of reviving the region's traditional water management structures and decentralising their management and maintenance.

Struggle to Save Nagpur's Water Bodies

Efforts to save Nagpur's decaying water bodies, restore other surface reservoirs and recharge groundwater levels form one of the key initiatives proposed in a draft report for the region as part of the National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan commissioned by the ministry of environment and forests.
