Established in 2004, the Asia Institute of Southn Studies (ISAS) is an autonomous research institute at the National University of Singapore. It is dedicated to research on contemporary South Asia. The Institute seeks to promote understanding of this vital region of the world, and to communicate knowledge and insights about it to policymakers, the business community, academia and civil society, in Singapore and beyond.

We are seeking a full-time Director to provide leadership, organisational management and strategic directions to the Institute. Reporting to the Chairman and the Management Board, the Director will advance ISAS’ mission by leading, initiating, developing, coordinating and conducting research in the following five broad areas – Security and International Relations; Multilateral and International Linkages; Politics and Governance; Trade and Economics; and the South Asian Diaspora. The Director will also oversee the administrative functions and financial management of the Institute as well as manage collaborations with research and academic institutions, government agencies and corporate organisations locally and internationally.The Director must hold a PhD in Political Science, International Relations or South Asian Studies, with a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated expertise with research-programme building on South Asia within a leading research institution. He/She must have a distinguished record of research and administrative experience, and evidence of excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. He/She must also have extensive experience in dealing with governments and corporate organisations in South Asia, and international research institutes on South Asia.

The appointment will commensurate with experience. The application will close on 10 November 2017. The selected candidate is expected to assume the Director’s appointment in April 2018.
