India Time Series

A few months ago EPWRF introduced an online database service christened as`India Time Series’, www.epwrfits.in. The project envisaged dissemination of data in fifteen modules displaying time series on a wide range of macro-economic and financial sector variables in a manner convenient for research and analytical work. This is targeted to benefit particularly students, research scholars, professionals and the academic community, both in India and abroad.

This online service is a part of the project funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and executed by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and the Economic and Political Weekly (EPW).

Time series data sets have been structured under various modules.

Call for Papers


Fourteenth Annual Conference on Money and Finance


The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) will be hosting its 14th Annual Conference on Money and Finance on April 6 and 7, 2012.

Keynote Speaker : Professor  Michael Bordo, Director of the Center for Monetary and Financial History at Rutgers University and National Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

Submissions :  Papers  are  invited on all theoretical and empirical aspects of monetary and financial economics.  Contributions on the following topics are particularly welcome:


  1. Consumption and Savings Behaviour of Households

  2. Implications of Financial Crisis on Emerging Market Trade Patterns

  3. Microstructure of Money, Debt, Stock and Forex Markets
  4. Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance

Guidelines for paper submission

  1. Complete, unpublished papers should be submitted online in Adobe PDF format after logging in at https://www.easychair.org/account/signin.cgi?conf=mfc14  , [Authors who don’t have a login at easychair need to create one using the icon "I have no easy chair account" on the above mentioned site].  

  2. In case of any difficulty in submitting  papers at easychair, papers may also be sent to the following email address: mfc@igidr.ac.in.
  3. Papers should reach on or before February 20, 2012. All submissions will be reviewed and the Authors of accepted papers  will be informed by March 6, 2012.
  4. A few select papers presented at the Conference could be considered for possible publication in the Journal of Quantitative Economics (www.jqe.co.in) or Journal of Macroeconomics and Finance in Emerging Market Economies (see www.informaworld.com/mfeme)

Authors of accepted papers may be requested to act as discussants for other papers. 

Travel and Accommodation

Economy class airfare by the shortest distance will be reimbursed to the presenters of accepted papers. The Institute will arrange for accommodation and local hospitality.  Details of earlier conferences are available at http://www.igidr.ac.in/~money.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) invites applications for admission to the following programmes:
 1. M.Sc. (Economics):    This is a two-year programme commencing August 2012.
Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to M.Sc. programme include one of the following degrees or their equivalents: B.A./B.Sc. in Economics/B.Com./B.Stat./B.Sc. (Physics or mathematics)/B.Tech./B.E. with at least a second division for Economics discipline and  first division for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary level or should be able to demonstrate equivalent mathematical ability.
Some need-based scholarships are available to Masters students as per Institute’s norms. The second year Masters students are eligible to express interest to work as Graduate Assistants and depending upon the availability and norms, might be awarded such assistantships.
2. M.Phil./Ph.D. (Development Studies): These are interdisciplinary programmes commencing August 2012. The duration of M.Phil.  programme is two years and that of Ph.D. programme is four years.
Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to the M.Phil and Ph.D. programme include one of the following degrees or their equivalents: M.A./M.Sc in Economics/M.Stat./M.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research)/M.B.A./M.Tech./M.E./B.Tech./B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied Mathematics at the higher secondary level or should be able to demonstrate equivalent mathematical ability.
Stipend:  M.Phil./Ph.D. students receive a monthly stipend of Rs.12,000/- in the first two years. Those students, who fulfill the terms and conditions for Ph.D. registration, would receive a monthly stipend of Rs.18,000/- after Ph. D. registration in the third year.

Selection Procedure: Candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in a written test and an interview. The written test emphasizes general aptitude, analytical ability and mathematical skills.  The test will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the following centres: Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, and Thiruvananthapuram. The test venue will be notified in the call letter. Based on the performance in the written test, short listed candidates will be called for an interview at IGIDR around the last week of June 2012. Second class return rail fare by the shortest route from the place of residence will be paid to the candidates interviewed. The decision of the Institute will be final.

How to Apply: 

(1) By Post: Application forms and prospectus may be purchased from the Institute Students’ Office on a working day (Monday to Friday, 9.15 a.m. to 5.45 p.m.). The request for the application form in plain paper should have the candidate's name, date of birth, sex, address, academic qualifications, choice of test centre etc.

(2) Internet Download: Application form can also be downloaded directly from the website of IGIDR (www.igidr.ac.in).

Request for application by post and Internet downloaded applications forms along with a bank draft of Rs.500/- (non-refundable) in favour of Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) payable at Mumbai may be sent by post to the Students Office, IGIDR, Gen. A.K. Vaidya Marg, Santosh Nagar, Goregaon (East), Mumbai 400 065 (E-mail: soffice@igidr.ac.in). Payment in any other form will not be accepted.

It is strongly suggested that the applicants should use the Online facility.
(3) Online Application: Candidates can fill the application form online available at www.igidr.ac.in.  The online application fee is Rs.300/- only.

Reservation: Reservation of seats for SC/ST/Physically disabled categories will be as per the Government of India rules. Such applicants need not submit any application fee but are required to enclose a copy of the Caste Certificate/Medical Certificate (as the case may be) along with their request for application form. Those SC/ST/Physically disabled applicants submitting forms downloaded from the website are required to attach a copy of the necessary Certificate.
