Status of Denotified Tribes

A study on the socio-economic and educational status of denotified tribes reveals that members of these tribes are plagued by chronic poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, health complications, and substandard living conditions, apart from the label of ex-criminals. They face an identity crisis in the absence of statutory documents and therefore, need special policies for their welfare and upliftment.

Labour Migration in Mahabubnagar: Nature and Characteristics

This study focuses on the nature and characteristics of seasonal labour migration in the Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh. It evaluates the forms/ types of migration and analyses the migrants' wage rates, working conditions and the expenditure patterns. It reveals that migration from the study village is essentially seasonal and cyclical in nature and differs for the rural and the urban emigrants. It also fi nds that migration takes place mainly for survival and repayment of debts, and that a large proportion of their earnings from migration is utilised for day to day expenses.
